Yo! I'm Jared. I've been eating a low carb (keto) diet since 2013. This was before it became popular. Even I wasn't sold on the idea of eliminating certain food groups at the beginning but I was willing to experiment a little bit. Luckily, the keto trend took off and I didn't die or develop an extra limb or eyeball or something crazy like that.
The reason I decided to change my diet so drastically was because of my nephew, Oliver. He was about 2 or 3 years old when we noticed he had horrible reactions to certain foods. This did not sit well with me and I went down the rabbit hole with my family to figure some dietary stuff out! Years later it is official...Oliver was diagnosed with celiac disease. This wasn't the end of the world for him but the beginning of our family business. Turning lemons into lemonade.
I love to grill steaks, kayak during the summer, read books, and watch eating challenges on YouTube (gross but interesting). I run the day to day operations at Oliver Friendly Foods while my mom and her helpers develop the products. I'm just happy to be involved in a business with delicious food around. One of the many perks!
Hi, I'm Sharon, but Oliver calls me Grammy. I love being a wife, mom, & grandmother. Much of the time you will find me in the kitchen because breaking bread and sharing meals with my loved ones are two of my favorite past times. This became a struggle because my grandson’s health began to deteriorate due to an allergic reaction to gluten. Oliver was unable to enjoy traditional homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. My heart broke when I watched him sit quietly and say, "no thanks" to all the goodies.
With my family’s help and encouragement, I decided to develop and bake gluten free recipes that would help Oliver and not harm him. No one should go through life without a good piece of toast. This piece of toast had to be gluten free, grain free, and low carb. I had no idea that it would take 70 tries to develop a good loaf of bread! I have always told Oliver not to waste his trials but somehow use them for good.
Well now I want to use these family recipes to help others enjoy bread and food again! Why should anyone go through life without a decent slice of bread?
Hi! I’m Jeni, Oliver’s mom. I love sharing life with my husband, Jeff, our two kiddos, Lucie and Oliver, and our Australian Shepherd, Buddy. We keep active maintaining a 5-acre hobby farm and enjoy playing in Idaho’s outdoor playground! My love of making meals and sharing them with others was passed down from my parents who both have a talent for making tasty meals and treats. I grew up with the roar of chatter and laughter around our dinner table as we enjoyed meals with family and friends. Oliver’s auto-immune disease caused us all to rethink food and learn to be creative with it. This has not stopped my joy of cooking for others. My favorite part of Oliver Friendly Foods is bringing hope and a smile to your table as you find alternative food products that work with your eating style!
Hi! I’m Courtney. Let me start by saying THANK YOU for taking the time to read about Oliver Friendly Foods and supporting your local businesses!
I love bread! Along with most other carbs. It wasn’t until I entered my 30s when I realized that maybe, just maybe, food has a stronger connection to our physical and emotional health than we think. I started researching the benefits of putting quality foods in my body and became more mindful about the products I purchase. Cut to, I get really excited when I find little gems like Oliver Friendly Foods; bread that actually tastes delicious AND is good for me? Shut up and take my money.
My primary responsibilities are managing our social media inquiries, but really, I want to share with as many people as possible that taking control of your health does not have to be full of sacrifice and misery. You can enjoy bread again while being kind to your body! This is not a trick.
Come see us at the Boise Farmers Market to learn more about our products. Or, if you want to chat about your pet or murder documentaries, I’m your girl!
Courtnie Dawson, Boise native and long-time lover of all things food, manages the Oliver Friendly Foods online experience as the team Social Media Coordinator. Courtnie was drawn to working with Oliver Friendly Foods because of her mother-in-law, who suffers from gluten intolerance but still cooks her family’s favorite items despite not being able to enjoy them. With our bread, Courtnie is excited to see her mother-in-law enjoy some of her favorite foods again. Courtnie is also the social media manager and a contributor for Edible Idaho magazine, Idaho’s only food-exclusive publication. When she’s not behind a computer, she enjoys cooking, eating, gardening, and reading about food. She also spends her free time hiking and backpacking the Boise National Forest with her husband and dog.
Hi! I'm Jill and I've been a diagnosed Celiac for over 12 years now, so you can imagine how excited I've been to work with Oliver Friendly Foods! I loved helping with their initial logo, branding and web design and now help manage their online sales platforms!
When I'm not geeking out over new gluten-free food options, I'm either spending time with my amazing husband, two sons and African Gray parrot or I am playing the harp!
I'm excited that I get to be apart of this amazing team and that I get to help bring a fantastic product to the gluten-free market!
